A specimen of Polydactylus longipes, previously known only from three type specimens from the Philippines, was collected off Vanuatu at a depth of 300-360 m. This specimen is the first record of P. longipes from outside the Philippines, being an approximately 5000 km southeastward range extension from the type locality. The depth of capture revealed P. longipes to be the deepest occurring member of the family. Apparent morphological changes due to allometric growth are also noted.
